Happy Birthday Daddy!

Today was Stephen's birthday. I got some cute pictures of him and Buddy at the restaurant tonight so I will try and post them later.
Now that little man is in bed we are going to watch a movie together.

I am so thankful for another year in my husband's life. I love you Stephen!

A Cool Correlation

My baby falls asleep every night to a Baby Praise CD that someone gave me. The CD takes a lot of popular praise songs and makes them sound a little more like a lullaby.

The first song on the CD is "Better is One Day".

As soon as he hears the song start he knows it is time to go to sleep. Tonight when he heard the first notes coming through the CD player he started rubbing his eyes.

If we aren't at home and he is taking a nap in the "Pack n Play" I will sing this song because he associates it with falling asleep.

I was thinking tonight about when I first heard that song. I was at a Passion Conference in Fort Worth Texas in January 1999. I was 18 years old and a freshman in college.

At that point I had no idea what a Passion Conference was. This was before their CDs were produced on record label.

The only reason I went was because a youth minister I knew in Greenville was taking a group of college students. I was the only one in the group from my college (North Greenville).

I didn't know who any of the speakers or worship leaders were. Today they are very familiar to me. (John Piper, Beth Moore, the late Bill Bright, Louie Giglio, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Charlie Hall) The youth minister showed me video from a smaller conference "Passion" had done a year before and it captivated me. I decided to ask for the trip as my Christmas present from my parents.

That trip radically changed my life. It is amazing that a single conference could bear so much fruit in someone's heart but it did in mine and I am sure 1000s of others. I won't go into all the reasons why on this blog post. That would take a long time!

On the last night of the conference I had so many emotions. I had worshiped like I never had, been challenged like I never had, and also had a strong pull in my heart because I felt like God was asking me to do missions that summer. I literally felt like I had experienced a little piece of heaven.

Then Charlie Hall got up on stage and sang "Better is One Day"(written by Matt Redman). Maybe for the first time I could truly understand; "Better is one day in your courts than a 1000 elsewhere. I would rather be a door keeper in my Father's house than dwell in the tents of the wicked" (Ps 84:10). I thought my heart would beat out of my chest that night.

Little did I know that 10 1/2 years later my little baby would be falling asleep to that song. I hope that he will very soon understand the meaning of those words.

Happy Father's Day!

I hope everyone has a great Father's Day tomorrow! This is Stephen's first Father's Day so that is special.
I tried to take pictures tonight of Buddy holding up a sign that said "I love you PaPa". (That is what he will call my dad.) But he just wanted to play with the paper and eat it. :) Oh well it is the thought that counts. Stephen and I are VERY thankful for our dads. I am also so thankful that my son has a great dad who loves him and loves the Lord.

Pujols Kitchen

This morning I read in the Compassion magazine about a web-site called Pujols Kitchen. The lady who designed it was inspired by all of the wonderful Domincan Republic women she met while traveling in that country.
The website has lots of wonderful recipes and any proceeds from the website will benefit the Pujols Family Foundation which continues to help Dominican women including those registered in Compassion's Child Survival Program.
You should check it out. The recipes look delicious.
Also this is a shout out to my Aunt Becky. My husband, baby and I went to visit her and my Uncle Steve last night and had a great time. She reads my blog so I just wanted to say Thank you! We love you guys.

8 Months Old!

Stephen was 8 months old yesterday.

He had a checkup today and he was 17.7 lbs and 28 inches.

I have recently loved hearing a frequent "ma ma ma ma ma ma" from him. Even though I don't think he knows what it means yet it is still fun to hear.

He really is the sweetest little thing. He has such a good personality. He hardly ever fusses and loves to cuddle, play, and smile. I am so thankful for him and am going to savor ever bit of these last few "baby" months.

Cartoons

My son doesn't watch cartoons yet. Thank goodness. I know one day he will want to watch them. But I am glad he doesn't now. I haven't seen all the new cartoons, but the ones I have tried to watch on the Disney Channel ANNOY me. Maybe I am just getting old. I like the old ones better.

I don't mean that I think (as far as I know) the new cartoons on Disney are bad or immoral or anything like that, they just get on my nerves.

What Cartoons do your children like? What Channels do they come on? Are there any that you like to watch with them? Also I know children like to watch the same movies over and over again. Does this drive you crazy or do you just get used to it?

In other news, my hubby is away for a few days at the Advance '09 conference in Durham, NC. I just looked online tonight and they already have the first 3 sermons up here. I just started listening to them and it kind of makes me feel like I am there with him. :)
