This morning I was reading the Psalm of Ascents. These are Psalms 120 - 134. Many people say that these psalms were sung and recited by pilgrims traveling up to Jerusalem to worship in the temple.
These are some of my favorite Psalms. There are so many great promises and nuggets of truth there that are great to memorize and pray.
When I came to Psalm 131, I think it made even more sense to me now that I have a son.
1"O LORD, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty; Nor do I involve myself in great matters, Or in things too difficult for me. 2Surely I have composed and quieted my soul; Like a weaned child rests against his mother, My soul is like a weaned child within me. 3 O Israel, hope in the LORD. From this time forth and forever."
My son isn't "weaned" yet. But it makes me think of the times right after he has eaten or when he is tired. Sometimes he just wants to sit real close to me and snuggle up against me. He feels secure and loved. That is how David is with the Lord. He trusts Him, feels safe with Him, and wants to be near to Him. This is how I want to be with the Lord. To draw near to Him and press into Him each day. But more important to trust Him so much that I can have a quiet soul that can do this no matter what the circumstances are around me.

Tonight we had a knock at the Door
and it was our neighbor and she asked "I just wanted to know what I needed to do to be saved." Wow. How awesome is that?

I Love This Book!
I already wrote about this book last July here in this post. But now that I have read through it twice with my son I really have fallen in love with it. I tear up almost every time I read it to him. I love the way it is written and the way is shows how all the Bible stories are part of the bigger story of "God's rescue plan" to come and save the world through Jesus. The way it describes God's love is a "Never Stopping, Never Giving Up, Unbreaking, Always and Forever Love."
It is easy to understand and shows the bible is not a book of rules or just stories but is about Jesus. Is really theologically accurate with a good understanding of the Old and new Testament and has bright pictures. And it is just written really well! I can't say enough about it. I saw this book at Crossway for 40% off last week. If you live in Greenville you should definate pick one up!

One of those days
Today has been one of those days. You know the kind I am talking about. :) I am thankful that in the midst of everything in life that we have an unshakable hope. It was not a coincidence that I read in my quiet time this morning, "All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Therefore strengthen the hands that are weak, and the knees that are feeble and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put of our joint but rather healed." Amen
