Goodbye Bottles (sniff sniff)

Hello Sippy Cups.

Well today is another milestone in the life of my son. We are throwing out the bottles. He now is comfortable drinking his formula out of a "big boy" sippy cup. (Until now he could only figure out how to drink from one that had a soft nipple like a bottle.)
This is Buddy's feeding history: I nursed exclusively for 4 months but he was so small that my doctor told me I needed to supplement. So I supplemented until he was 6 months and for the last 3 months we were only using formula.

He has taken to table food very well and with that and his formula he is a great weight now.

But this step really makes me feel like little baby is growing up. I mean when you think "Baby" you think "bottle" right?
But I have read that if they will take their milk from a sippy cup it is good to go ahead and make the switch because if you don't then they get really attached to the bottle and won't want to give it up when they are 1.

What do you think? When did you make the switch?

I think if they're ready, then go for it! I started trying the sippy cup out on Peyton right before she turned one. She wouldn't have anything to do with it. Then I bought the soft nipples on the sippy cup, and she did a little better once she realized that there was milk in the cup. But sometimes I would take the cup with the soft nipple, pinch the nipple, and squirt the milk in her mouth. She would usually drink it then. It didn't take her that long to transition. But my child is a lover of liquids. She would drink juice and milk by the gallons if I let her, so she really loves her sippy cup!

Elijah had one bottle a day until he decided he wanted to drink out of his Lightning McQueen cup. He was old enough to tell me (over 2.)

Graham will only drink milk in a bottle. He still has one every morning. I am waiting for him to kick the habit but its not a big deal since its only once a day.

I am glad you are done with them so early!

I have thankfully been able to avoid bottles all together for all four of mine. Breastfeeding has been very easy for me, and each of mine (with the exception of Millie Grace who is 8months) weaned themselves soon after their first birthdays and went straight to whole milk in a sippy cup. I know not everyone can/wants to do it that way, but it has been WONDERFUL for us!

I think they all go at their own pace with these things. Seth really wanted to try the cup early...I think we were doing both cup and bottle around 10 months. By the time he was one...I was tired of the bottle and he didn't care anymore either. Thankfully.

One thing I did do was switch the cups almost every time so he would not get used to one particular type. It seemed to help him be flexible with cups especially if we were at someone else's house...and i didn't have one.

Seth is easy going though, Levi on the other hand only wants me! Even if I pump...he doesn't want the bottle. So, I imagine...bottles, cups, you name it will be difficult with him. :)

I Breastfed Areyna until she was 10 months old and within 2 months she was SUPER attached tot he bottle. It was a struggle for her to give it up at 1 but with persistence we did it! Way to go Buddy for doing it on your own=)

Zeke wasn't too difficult because he wanted to do everything Areyna did and she drank from a sippy cup so he wanted to as well=) I even had to stop nursing him around 8 months. They are only 15 months apart so that example helped.

We'll see how #3 does...

I started giving Ian a sippy cup of water with meals at around 10 months. My pediatrician was pretty hardcore about having him off the bottle completely at 12 months, which he was. He took the sippy cup very well, though...I understand that not all babies give up the bottle so easily! I do think it's probably harder to transition from nursing to a sippy cup, though.
